Midreshet Tehillah offers 2 different Learning Tracks and the opportunity to switch between them during the year:

Tehillah TrackThe Tehillah Track

This is the classic Midreshet Tehillah program with a lively classroom-based interactive lecture/discussion format. Classes are focused around a central text rather than the unanchored opinions of the teachers, with the text translated and discussed in the context of the group. This Track is designed for students who prefer this style of learning, or for those who do not yet have the skills to learn text on a sophisticated level on their own. The track includes some Beit Midrash time to enable students to develop their skills, with flexibility to add more for those who wish to put a stronger emphasis on this aspect of their growth.

The Beit Midrash TrackRabbi Jeremy Kagan, Director of Midreshet Tehillah

This runs in parallel with the Tehillah Track, with some overlapping classes and full integration  of the students from both tracks. It follows a chavruta-based Beit Midrash format. Most classes (including Night Seder) include significant chavruta time, with teachers on hand to help guide students through texts when needed. This track is designed for students with good skills who are interested in deriving meaning directly from sources and not only hearing it filtered through a teacher. Though this style of learning covers less material, that is offset by the additional depth and integration of understanding that result from the effort and creativity that are invested in the text. Talmidot will significantly improve their basic reading, translation, and comprehension skills. More importantly, they will learn the skills of independent Torah thinking: how to properly interpret texts in their larger context and develop their own original, high quality Divrei Torah.  Beit Midrash classes take place in the mornings and two evenings each week. For the remainder of the academic program, and for all tiyulim and activities, the Beit Midrash and Tehillah Track program is fully integrated and the students from both tracks participate together.

What is the Midreshet Tehillah Approach? We offer profound experiences based on the following principles:

Midreshet Tehillah ClassroomMachshevet Yisrael:
At Midreshet Tehillah, students develop a sensitivity to the depth, subtlety and complexity of Torah. We engage sources from Tanach, Talmud, Halacha, Midrash, and Jewish philosophy to gain a nuanced understanding of their underlying issues and implications. Our students come to appreciate that, rather than a collection of insights, Torah presents us with a powerful, integrated vision of reality and self which transforms our world.

Personal Religious Growth:
At Midreshet Tehillah we guide each student to grow religiously in a manner structured to her individual character, strengths, and needs while enhancing her self-awareness, self-respect, and sensitivity to others.

Tefillah at Midreshet TehillahKlal Yisrael: 
At Midreshet Tehillah we encourage each talmida to form her unique self in the context of her connection to and participation in Klal Yisrael. Through her chesed activities, each student plays an active role in the life of the Jewish people. Through meeting families and communities, classes, experiences, encounters, and endless conversations, they begin to gain a sense for how they want to live their lives and raise their families in today’s complex Jewish world.

Eretz Yisrael:
We encourage our students to view the opportunity to learn Torah and live in Eretz Yisrael as a privilege, and an incredible opportunity to experience our past as it meets our future.  We want our students to bond with their Land by trekking its trails, walking in the places where the Tanach they study actually happened, and engaging the issues that animate both their own lives and that of the modern State of Israel.

Midreshet Tehillah Fun in the DormsOur students come from Yeshiva High Schools and out-of-town Beit Yaakovs in America and England, with some Baalei Teshuva and NCSY students in the group. They share a strong commitment to Halacha and growth, but bring a variety of perspectives to how that looks. The contrast allows students to understand themselves more clearly. Neve Yerushalayim’s presence adds another level of diversity to the campus. Despite coming from very different backgrounds, Neve and Midreshet Tehillah students share a common direction of growth, and each group gains inspiration from the other.

After graduation, our American students usually attend Stern College, Touro College, or other universities and colleges, while some students choose to remain for our Shana Bet program or other programs in Israel. British and Southern Hemisphere students generally attend university in their home town.

Midreshet Tehillah looks to recruit focused and committed talmidot who want to be challenged intellectually and inspired spiritually. We look for motivated, mature young women who recognize that real questions require more than one-line answers.

Where Torah is Your Gateway to a Deeper Self

Midreshet Tehillah is a learning-based Seminary located in Jerusalem where intellectual challenge and personal exploration are emphasized. Our staff is warm and welcoming, selected for their interest in developing genuine connections with our talmidot, as well as for the depth and relevance of their Torah. Our students come from diverse backgrounds, learning as much from one another as from their teachers.

Midreshet Tehillah is housed on the beautiful and spacious Neve Yerushalayim campus, which hosts numerous seminary and college programs. This is a secure, gated facility in Har Nof on the outskirts of Yerushalayim. Conveniently located near a major shopping area, the campus is just a short bus ride from the Kotel and the center of town. With an average of 60 girls in Shana Alef and 15 girls in Shana Bet, we are able to give strong individual attention to each and every student.

Since 2003, we have been providing a wonderful environment for students to elevate themselves and their Torah to new levels. Our alumnae continue to express hakarat hatov to the school for what they gained, even years after graduation. They are active in their home communities and in one another’s lives, and often keep contact with staff.
